Plain and simple: we love coffee!

Our Head Roaster, Stephen Botta, has traveled the world and been immersed in the coffee culture of Panama, Colombia, Nicaragua, and Italy, and brings elements of those experiences into each bean selection and daily roast. His love of the daily ritual of a morning cup of coffee, along with his craftsmanship and attention to detail, drives him to perfect our small batch artisan coffee. 

Our Head of Sales & Partnerships, Alina Botta, has dreamed of owning a coffee shop and space where communities can come together, share ideas and creative expression, and enjoy life. 

Ground Keeper Coffee was born from our collective dream to one day have a cafe in upstate New York on acres of land where we can have trails and preserve green space while roasting customizable and approachable specialty coffee.

This dream was put on hold by Covid-19 and quarantine, so we decided to start where we were-  New York City. We brought the coffee regions of South America, Central America, Africa, and Indonesia to our space, and refined the flavors to create a customizable coffee experience for all different levels of coffee drinkers.

Particularly during quarantine, we’ve thought a lot about space (considering that most of us were confined). We considered how we can affect change from a small footprint. We examined how we spend our time, what we put into our bodies, the products and services we support, and the impact they have on the world. A morning cup of coffee is a daily ritual that so many people partake in, but how can we make that better? When creating GroundKeeper, we’ve realized that it’s not enough to just create a business that consumes resources and makes money, we have to replenish the world and give back. 

Our original goal was to create a quality product at an affordable price that is sustainable and leaves minimal footprint, and gives back to the environment by donating 5% of profit to preserving green space.  In light of recent events, proceeds for the foreseeable future will now go towards social justice and dismantling systems of oppression. Because we want to do our part to create a world that everyone can enjoy.
